Personally I'm using an Auzentech Prelude which is based on the Creative design (they own them after all) and has the same X-Fi chip and uses Alchemy and a fair chunk of Creative's drivers for EAX and the like. Cyberlink will not fix this, it is working correctly and the limitation is the spdif. Either that or use the Creative analogue outs. If your onboard Realtek does Live or Connect then that may be a better solution.

Power DVD do have an on the fly DTS re-encode option but only on the full retail not the OEM versions and has been known to cause its own problems. Russtavo, the Creative card you have doesn't seem to do Live or Connect so DD or DTS looks to be the best the card will do, it will therefore only give stereo for the high def stuff over spdif. Check the motherboard manufacture to see if they have a patch. Vista Service pack 1 does seem to have created problems for some onboard sound devices and updated drivers are what is needed. Using speakers and DD Live or DTS Connect will allow for DD+ True HD and DTS Master in addition to vanilla DD and DTS over Spdif, however they will be re-encoded by either Live or Connect, whichever you select, but which will be limited to the respective versions of DD or DTS regardless of the source material. If you can run DD Live or DTS Connect, then you should select Speakers in Vista and select the number of speakers you have in Power DVD or VMC or whatever app. Selecting any other output or high bitrate source will either give no sound or stereo. If the desired default device is Spdif in Vista, then select same output in Power DVD then it should work fine (driver issues aside) and will pass DD and DTS, it WILL NOT PASS anything better, DD+ TrueHD or DTS Master HD. Apparently that know just as well as I do, that there is no alternative to PowerDVD, when it comes to playing High Def disks Then I will just swap it for another.Ĭyberlink say that they will give me a refund (just as i demanded, if they could not fix the problem), but I was more hoping for a fix to this. Is the problem specific to Creative X-FI. So maybe there is a way of getting it to work? If this really does not work at all, I would expect many more than us guys to have reported the problem here at AVForums. We regret for the inconvinience that you have had faced.Ĭan anyone help me interpret this? I'm not that technical when it comes to sounds and Hifi.ĭoes that mean that I can "force a 48KHz signal, and then it will work? Or is that not possible for DTS/Dolby Digital? We have escalated your issue related with refund to our websales team and they will refund your purchase of PowerDVD Ultra. We regret but SPDIF sound output more than 48 KHz is not supported in PoweDVD Ultra. We understand your concern related with PowerDVD Ultra. Thank you for contacting CyberLink Online Support. I received an answer from Cyberlink support: I want to play Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs, so I really need PowerDVD to work. I've e-mailed Cyberlink support but they are s-l-o-w, and not helpful. I've done screengrabs of all relevant settings/info, they are here: I have disabled the onboard Relatek audio, and disabled the High-Def Audio on the graphics card. Graphics: ASUS Radeon HD 3450 (Catalyst 8.2)Īudio: Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio (latest drivers) My suspition is a compatibility issue between PowerDVD and my X-Fi Sound Blaster drivers. "2 Speaker", "6 speaker") I just get stereo sound. One major problem: PowerDVD outputs NO sound whatsoever when I change the audio settings to "S/PDIF".

Applications such as Windows Media Player are sending the correct multi-channel streams as my amp displays "Dolby Digital" or "DTS" depending on the source. I hope someone can save my sanity and help me with this problem! I have my new HTPC connected to my amp with Coax S/PDIF.
